The NFU has launched a survey of its members to gauge their thoughts on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

The online questionnaire will give NFU members a chance to air their views on some of the key issues, while further opportunities to contribute to the debate will become available over the coming months through regional and national commodity boards.

NFU head of economics and international affairs Thomas Hind said: “Next year, the European Commission will publish a policy paper on the future of the CAP. The policy faces a number of significant challenges and it is clear that whilst support for farming remains strong across the EU, there will be further substantial reform.

“It is important that the NFU seeks to influence the shape of the future policy and contributes to the debate that has now started. Over the next few months we will be consulting with our members, regional boards and national commodity boards in order to develop our policy which we will publish in the spring 2010.”
