AN ewe lamb by the 160,000gns Rhaeadr First Choice was the top seller at the Gloucester and Border Counties Texel Club’s Christmas Present Sale, when making 3000gns. 

The sale was held at Worcester Livestock Market on Saturday (December 2). 

This ewe lamb from James Theyer’s Oxfordshire-based Clanfield flock was THE2301386 and combined big money breeding, being out of a dam by the 100,000gns Auldhouseburn Expression. Sold with a terminal index of £5.11, she was knocked down after spirited bidding to Jack Robb, Leighton Buzzard, for the Pinfold Yard flock.

Next in line at 880gns was an in-lamb gimmer from the Chave family’s Peacehay flock, being CFP2202805. Sired by Clarks Wizard, she is out of a dam by Deveronvale Warrior and sold carrying to Usk Vale Fandabidozi. Buying this one was Kayleigh Dawe, Whitstone, Holsworthy, for her Tredawe flock.

Third best at 750gns was a gimmer from Susan Truszkowski’s Cwmsoar flock, TZK2200037. She’s by Teiglum Cinnamon and out of an Usk Vale-bred dam by Hexel Born To Be Wild. Sold carrying to Kingspark Grand Slam, she was taken by young breeders Ffion and Erin Davies, adding to their Severn View flock, Caerafon.

Also, at this money was another from the Chave family, CFP2202911. This daughter of Craig Douglas Extra Special is out of a dam by Clarks Wizard and was offered in-lamb to Usk Vale Fandabidozi. She joins Trevor Prew’s Shipton flock, Milton Under Wychwood.

Leading trade for Dutch Spotted females at 1600gns was Tom and Louise Nash, Pembrokeshire, selling and in-lamb gimmer, Merryboro Fran. By Ty-Gwyn Dustin and out of Burnhope Delectable, this one scanned in lamb to Dutch Dominator to C Riggs, Winbourne, Dorset.

Next at that money was another in-lamb female, this time from Sara Gibbons, Brecon, Powys. Whatmore Flycatcher is by Whatmore Elite and out of Navac Candy. This one sold having ran with Whatmore Forty Winx to Tom Buckland, Caerphilly, Glamorgan.

Then at 1500gns was an in-lamb gimmer from Haverfordwest-based Brian Davies in the form of an imported female from his Ty-Gwyn flock. French Kiss IM2355 was offered having ran with McDermotts Fireman and caught the eye of P Langdown, Blandford, Dorset.

Leading ewe lamb trade at 1500gns was Wedderburn Gyposphila ET from Jonathan and Janet Corbett, Newent, Glos. By Lochlad Dictator and out of the 6500gns imported female Camilla, this one heads to C M Difford, Nelson, Mid Glamorgan.

Badger Face Texels saw a top call of 800gns for a ewe lamb from Steven Ley and Hannah Payne, Liskeard, Cornwall. Tordown Edna is by Whatmore Babdit and out of a homebred female by an imported tup. This one went to previous Texel buyer, Trevor Prew.

Meanwhile Blue Texels saw a top call of 750gns on two occasions, the first from the pre-sale champion, Glan-Y-Mor Goddess ET from M and A Jones, Talsarnau, Gwynedd. This in-lamb gimmer is by a Turbo Blue tup and out of a homebred female by Turbo Blue Apeldoorn. Scanned in lamb to a homebred tup, this one sold to M J C Hocken, Cheltenham, Glos.

Also at that money was Whatmore Gin from Sara Gibbons. By Whatmore Chaos and out of Whatmore Dime, a Whatmore Bentley daughter, this one had been running with RJJ/22 06477 and was knocked down to S L Evans, Brecon, Powys.

Then at 720gns was Dulas DGJ/22/08850 from Messrs Jones and Co Gelli, Powys. This one is by the imported sire Beili Blues Peter and out of a Sams female. Scanned to RAV/21/05201, she went home with S J Timms, Brandon, Coventry.

Meanwhile, the pre-sale reserve champion, a ewe lamb from Joe Thornley’s Joe’s flock, Diesworth, Leicestershire, took a price tag of 520gns, selling to previous buyer M J C Hocken. Joe’s Hettie is by Top-bank Fearless ET and out of Joe’s Florence, a Sunnybank Do Or Die daughter.
