A READER wants to publicise his search for a property in which to store a collection of British and Commonwealth military vehicles, all of which saw service in the Second World War.

He is looking to buy a farm building, barn, workshop or similar, which would be suitable as secure storage where he can house and maintain the vehicles.

The collection includes items of historical importance and has been acquired and conserved over the last 20 years from both the U.K. and in one case, its wartime resting place on mainland Europe. Some vehicles are roadworthy and some require light restoration.

A particularly rare item in the collection is a 1943 Humber Armoured Car named Sophie, which took part in a Royal pageant along The Mall, parading for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and also featured in the 2014 film ‘Monuments Men’.

A more comfortable vehicle to drive is the 1945 Humber Super Snipe, built for the Air Ministry as an RAF officers staff car.

The ideal property would offer circa 2,500 square feet or more of covered space, with hardstanding or a yard suitable for an articulated vehicle to load and unload, plus direct road access. Some land on which to run the vehicles is desirable whilst serviceable utilities or the potential to install them is essential. A property requiring renovation or repurposing from for example, equestrian use would be considered.
