A new community hub to provide a permanent home for a pre-school and a solar farm to power a holiday park are among the latest planning proposals for Cornwall Council.

No dates have been set for when the planning applications below will be determined. They can be viewed by going to the planning portal on Cornwall Council’s website at www.cornwall.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/

Pre-school community hub

Plans have been submitted for a new village community hub in St Tudy, which will also provide a permanent home to a pre-school. St Tudy Playing Field Trust has applied for permission to build the new hub on land at the village playing field.

Planning permission is already in place for a community sports hub to be built at the site, but those plans were ended after funding and grants were lost during the Covid-19 pandemic. However the trust does have funds for a smaller building which would include some of the facilities proposed, including a base for the village pre-school.

A statement submitted with the application states that these services are now an “urgent priority” for the village. It adds: “The proposals under this application are, therefore, for a much smaller building but one which will provide the current services that are so desperately needed in the community.”

The application explains that the temporary building currently being used for the pre-school “has served its purpose well but is very costly to run and energy inefficient”. It continues: “The pre-school has been an amazing success and has a waiting list of parents wishing to place their children.”

Under the plans the new hub will also provide a space for the village school and the pre-school for meals to be served. When not being used as a dining room it can be utilised as an additional classroom or meeting room.

A planning application has been submitted for a new solar farm, which would be used to provide energy for two holiday parks. The 250kWp solar farm would be used to power Trevornick Holiday Park and Holywell Bay Leisure Park.

A design and access statement explains: “Both businesses are under the applicant’s ownership. Both businesses are focussed on reducing their carbon footprint and securing a competitive and secure energy supply to meet their seasonal energy demand.

“This in turn will maintain if not improve the competitiveness of the business into the future by reducing their costs, greening their business profile and ensuring they can secure and grow the existing facilities and jobs on site. This approach has been successful for many tourism facilities across the county and the applicant is committed to act.”

The decision to install solar panels on a site next to Trevornick was taken after plans for two wind turbines submitted in 2012 were refused. The number of solar panels has been set to provide sufficient power for the business and the site has been chosen as it is screened from most viewing points.
