A lighter entry than last week with patchy quality of prime cattle forward.

Best quality continue to sell to a similar trade to recent weeks.

Top price per kilo was 186p for a Limousin x heifer from Messrs J. & G.A. Vokes of Lockengate purchased by J.V. Richards Ltd. of Perranwell Station.

Top steer and top value was a Charolais x at 179p/kg (£1,167) from Messrs R.I. & M.A. Nicholls of St. Clement purchased by C.K. Richards & Co. of Grampound.

A pair of overage South Devon bulls from Mr. M. Hill of Redruth sold to a top price of 108p/kg, averaging 102.44p/kg.

Not quite as many cull cows this week but what was on offer sold extremely well.

Top value was £1,250 and top price at 150p/kg for a fine Limousin x beef cow from Messrs R., H.T. & R.M. Rowe of Gwinear, purchased by David King of Exeter.

Top value Friesian was £1,145 for a big 896kg cow from Messrs B.L. Hearn & Partners of Wadebridge purchased by Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh.

A limited entry this month with mainly cull cows forward which sold well and in line with normal and unrestricted markets.

A single UTM heifer sold to 141p for Messrs W.T. Key & Son of St. Breock, Wadebridge. A single OTM steer to 130p/kg for Messrs W.H. Pengelly & Son of Praze, Camborne.

A run of Friesian OTM heifers on behalf of Messrs M. & J. Rowe of Ashton, Helston sold to a top of 115p/kg and averaged 105.53p/kg.

Cull cows sold to 98p/kg (724kg) for a South Devon from Messrs R. & J. Bailey of Frogpool, Truro. Top Friesian was 97p/kg (831kg) for Messrs M. & J. Rowe of Ashton, Helston.

The heavyweight lambs were a slightly easier trade yet a strong pen of heavyweight Texels selling to £86 for 52.3kg lambs from Miss R. S. Frank of Chacewater and a pair of 59.5kg heavyweights selling to £85.50 for Mr A. Kemp of Tregony. Two pens of quality 42kg lambs from Messrs S. & S. A. J. Rickard of Devoran topped the averages, both selling at 188p/kg to J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.

An better number met with an improved trade on the week reflecting the National picture. The best ewes were at least £10 up on the week, topping at £83 for a pen full of strong Texel ewes from Messrs C. D. Greenway & Sons of St. Issey. Three strong Cull rams from Mr F. K. Matthews of St. Erme saw the best strong Suffolk sell to £92.50 with a Charollais selling for £82.50.
