The market report from Sedgemoor Auction Centre for Monday, 19 August is as follows. The total stock was 1211 head.

A much stronger lamb trade. Yellow graded (thicker) lambs in best demand.

65 Prime and untested forward cattle.

57 UTM & 8 OTM Prime cattle. Auctioneers Comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a short entry of prime cattle at 65 head met a very similar trade to previous weeks.

Reviewing the day’s trade steers rose to 193.5ppk for a Limousin steer from J & J Meaker & Son, Langport, who also topped the heifer side of the sale at 190ppk with another Limousin.

Steers sold to £1,206.63 for a Limousin from J & S Vinnicombe & Son, Ottery St Mary.

Heifers sold to £1,146.96 for a Limousin from CJM Shackleton, Wiveliscombe.

75 Barren cows and cull stock bulls. Auctioneers Comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a good entry of cull stock at 75 head met another solid trade, if not spectacular due to the general lack of best quality on offer.

Top was 138.5ppk for a well fleshed, shapely and farm assured Blue cow from K & M McEwen Smith, Henbury, who sold a Limousin at 122.5 and a further Blue at 119.5ppk. Smart farm assured Simmental at 124.5ppk from GR Baker, Cannington. Further Simmental at 118.5ppk from DF Rawkins, Ashill, who also sold a Blonde at 117.5ppk. 117.5ppk again for a Blue from DP Leaney, Heale. Simmentals again at 116.5 and 115.5pk from R Binning, Draycott.

Sucklers sold to £1,052.60 for the Blue from K & M McEwen Smith.

Dairy breeds rose to 116.5ppk for a very well fleshed Holstein from CJ & JA Reed, Bridgwater. Further better fleshed black and whites at 114.5ppk, Guernsey cross, MD Fone & Sons, Upottery; 114.5ppk again, Holstein, J Read & Co, Pyrland; 112.5ppk, Holstein, Newley Farm, Bishops Hull and 112.5 (x2) and 110.5ppk, Holsteins, MM & EH Lucas, Puckington.

Dairy bred culls sold to £927 for a Holstein from MM & EH Lucas, Puckington.

1071 Finished lambs. Auctioneers Comments:

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report more lambs forward at 1071 head sold to a much stronger trade for all but the very heaviest, which were a similar trade. The best sold to 185 and 181ppk from DP Leaney. Others 184ppk from BL Sercombe and SG Harraway; 183 and 181ppk from RR Creed & Son; 182ppk from JF Walker & Partners and MA & SS Sanders and 181ppk from RC Stock, AE Toogood, C Boundy (x2) Milborne Wick Farms Ltd and CJM Shackleton.

Heavier lambs sold to £106 from FH & PJ Bailey. Others £100 and £93 (x2) from AR Henson; £100 from KA Hill; £95 from JG & YL Bennett and DJ & DA Bloyce; £93 from DP Leaney and £92 from RM Sparks & Sons. Overall average £78.51.
