Groundwork South has received support for their rural emergencies project Communities Prepared, in the form of £29,929 of grant funding from The Prince’s Countryside Fund.
The Fund awards grants to local, grassroots organisations, and since 2010 has distributed over £10 million.
The Fund’s mission is to help ensure a vibrant rural economy with a thriving and resilient farming sector at its heart, and its grant programme is a major focus of activity to achieve this.
Groundwork South’s Communities Prepared project aims to help communities boost their resilience and react to floods, snow, storms and other emergencies. The project is taking a holistic approach to ensure that there will be a network of multi-role emergency volunteers.
Hannah Baker, who is the programme manager for Communities Prepared said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded a grant from the Prince’s Countryside Fund, which will enable us to support rural communities across the country to grow their resilience in the face of flooding and other emergencies.
"We’re looking forward to working with the Environment Agency, emergency services and other local partners to provide training and resources to community leaders and volunteers, helping them to prepare for, respond to and recover from such challenges.”
