Cornwall got down to the ‘bear’ necessities of fundraising yesterday when people all over the county raised money for Children In Need.

This included at schools across the Packet region, where pupils were encouraged to come in dressed in spots, as bears and even in their pyjamas.

At Helston Community College students organised a range of events in their lunch break, including a bake sale and wet sponge throwing.

Children from St Mary’s School in Penzance and St Madderns School at Madron took part in a sponsored walk to Marazion on the coast path, completing it in two hours.

Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, the Big Learner Relay event reached Cornwall. This saw learner drivers from around the county driving in tandem, to hand over to other learners in a ‘relay’ ending at Silverstone on Friday.

The event is now in its fifth year and spanned 17 days, more than 3,000 miles around the UK and Jersey, and more than 190 driving lessons leading the convoy of many thousands of instructors and pupils.
