Apologies for dropping the word so early but it’s time to think of Christmas!
Fortunately, it’s only in terms of planting.
Potting hyacinths, Paperwhite daffodils, narcissus and freesias in bowls and other suitable containers now will ensure you have the scent and colour of spring at Christmas.
It's easy to do and satisfying, too. Leave them in a warm, sunny place indoors and once they’ve grown an inch or so, put them in a cool room until close to the time you’d them to flower.
If you prefer buying prepared bulbs for forcing plant them up and leave them in a cold, dark place for the next few months until you want them to flower in situ.
