British Hen Welfare Day is September 22 and it is dedicated to celebrating laying hens and their eggs.

Since the day falls during National Cupcake Week, the British Hen Welfare Trust is asking supporters to make and sell cupcakes in support of the charity.

Francesca Taffs, marketing and communications officer for the national charity, said: “There’s nothing better than a cuppa alongside a piece of free range cake, especially when you’re raising money to help save lives at the same time.”

All proceeds raised from British Hen Welfare Day will be put towards building the UK’s first dedicated Happy Hen Care Home. All those taking part are invited to share their photos on social media using the hashtag #BHWD2017 to be in with the chance to win a prize.
