Christmas shopping has become one of the big attractions for visitors to the Royal Welsh Winter Fair. According to an on-line survey conducted following last year’s Fair, 17.5% of respondents said that shopping for Christmas gifts was one of the main reasons for their visit to the event. So, with just over three weeks to go to Christmas following this year’s Winter Fair on November 30 – December 1, and with some 300 trade stands to choose from, shopping will again be high on the agenda for many visitors.

The popularity of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Winter Fair as a showcase for the country’s leading stockmen has been confirmed by a record entry of cattle for this year’s event at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, on November 30 – December 1.

A packed programme of displays and events has been announced in the run up to Devon County Show tomorrow. There will be judging of the ridden hunters classes from 8am in the main ring, with the results of the national vegetable championships announced from 10am in the horticultural tent, where Joe Swift of BBC Gardener’s World is due to be filming. Also at 10am, in the countryside area, Adams Axemen will perform their world famous lumberjacks display and return at 2pm.

5-6 September 2009 There will be a fun ploughing day at Skylark garden Centre near Wimblington over the weekend of the 6-7 September with plots available for all types of tractors and horse teams. Held on Fenland land, this ploughing day is now an annual event and there will be a plaque for all participants. It will operate on a first come, first served basis so entries are needed before the weekend and cost £5.00 per plot except for horses who are free. Pig first for Leicestershire County Show

For the first time ever, a pig feature will be part of this year's Leicestershire County Show. It was the idea of Bidgiemire Pig Co, the specalist pig company based in Scotland. Similar to other pig features that the company have organised at other county shows, the feature will be split into three pens depicting Urban, Woodland and Smallholding pig keeping. Bidgiemire along with local breeders will be on hand to answer questions about all aspects of pig keeping.
