The New Smallholder Bookshop

October 1st 2008 was a landmark date for my partner Steve and myself as this was the first trading day for our new smallholder bookshop.

The bookshop had been successfully run by Val Charlesworth for 20 years and taking it over was a challenge as Val had been synonymous with the business and indeed was a former publisher of Smallholder magazine. We needed to make our mark quickly. Anyone who knows Val would understand that technology is not her forte but she is a lovely lady, much respected in the smallholding world and certainly a hard act to follow.

Building relationships with publishers, distributors and customers is integral to any business and this has been where our energies have been focussed.

Six months later and where are we? Well, we have updated the website and revamped the brochure and advertisements and are now starting to see an upturn in the business. Experts in smallholding we are not although we are country lovers but we are learning what works and what doesn't and are introducing new features to entice smallholders to buy "that certain book".

What's new with the website? See Smallholder magazine to find out.
