Keith Brown previews the pig section and pig agility at this years RWAS Smallholder and Garden Festival.
Once more we are all looking forward to the start of the 2009 Show season, and the jewel in the crown of pig Shows has to be the Smallholder and Garden Festival at The Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells.
This year we are fully expecting to eclipse the one hundred per cent increase in entries that saw over two hundred pigs on display in the pig lines and show ring last year, with representatives of every registered breed in the UK attending.
We are pleased to announce that the Pig Show this year, for the first time, will be held under the British Pig Association (BPA) Rules.
Amongst other benefits, this means that prize winners, where applicable, will qualify to go forward to their breed highly prestigious “Pig of the Year” classes. We wish them the best of luck at these events.
For the first time two show rings will be used, which means that the traditional breeds and modern breeds will each have their own judge with judging for both sections starting at c9.30am on Saturday May 16.
