HorseHage – the name says it all. Or does it? It seems that there are species of animals other than horses and ponies that are enjoying the benefits of this well-known bagged forage, and some of them are quite out of the ordinary.
At Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, in Devon, Alfalfa HorseHage is fed to the giraffes, black rhino, bongos (a rare antelope native to Central Africa) and the pudu (the smallest species of deer in the world, native to South America).
Phil Knowling, spokesman for Paignton Zoo said: “We prefer to feed HorseHage to our browsing hoof-stock because of its consistent quality and the fact that it is easy to store and there is no wastage. We use about 760 bales a year.”
HorseHage dust-free bagged forage is available in four tasty varieties – Ryegrass, High Fibre, Timothy and Alfalfa. A dust-free forage is important to reduce the chance of respiratory problems, whatever type of animal you are feeding. HorseHage comes with a 100 per cent quality guarantee and contains no chemical additives, mould inhibitors, flavourings, molasses or inoculants; and the unique fermentation process ensures that the sugar content in HorseHage is considerably lower than in other forages.
Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is a registered charity dedicated to conserving global wildlife heritage and inspiring in its many visitors a life long respect for animals and the environment. All profits made are invested in the conservation of threatened species.
