Farmer and smallholders welcome relaxation of slurry spreading rules during big freeze

RABDF welcomes Environment Agency’s spreading rules relaxation The Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers has welcomed the Environment Agency’s relaxation of it waste spreading regulations enabling slurry and milk to be spread on frozen or snow covered ground and consequently preventing storage tanks from overflowing.

“We welcome the Environment Agency’s common sense move,” says RABDF’s vice chairman, David Cotton. “Even before the big freeze arrived and milk collection became impossible, farmers’ slurry pits and tanks were already up against it after the wet months towards the end of last year. However, we would urge farmers to remain conscious of their actions and the potential for any pollution the spreading may cause.”
