I have an ulterior motive for writing this article as this is a new project that I started in August this year. Becoming more and more popular on the internet and social networking sites are online or virtual photo shows. These shows have proved very popular and successful amongst the horsey set, there are even online pet shows and a motorbike show!
Without feeling left out I thought the poulterers should join in! Possibly the first global poultry show 'Online poultry Shows' has launched on the social networking site Facebook.
Its first show attracted many entries and entrants from all over the world, including several entrants from America, Australia and Israel.
Online shows are a great way of showing your birds off and you don't need a top exhibit to take part. As a general rule the variety of classes accommodate everyone, whether you have a fluffy Pekin or prehistoric game.
Online poultry shows now even have a regular Smallholder class where you can enter your hybrid chickens, such as Warrens, Black Rocks etc. in the past there have been entries from some very smart chickens that even given some of the pure breeds a run for their money! There's even been classes for chicks and ducklings, classes that proved very popular.
Photo shows are a great way to be involved from the comfort of your own home, no washing, no driving, no carrying birds across a show hall and no worry of moulting and missing feathers! And most of all you don't have to be a poultry expert to take part. There are so many advantages of showing online!!!
It is a 'photo' show of poultry and not the same as a hands on poultry show and of course can not be judged the same, also as entrants are from all across the globe the standard of birds are quite different to that here in the UK and in different parts of the world, the independent judges that are chosen each month to judge the classes will take all this into account when choosing their winners.
