Horses at the Royal Bath and West

The horse and pony showing classes at the forthcoming Royal Bath and West Show have attracted many top names from all over the country.

Many of the most famous competitors in the showing world will be making their way to the Royal Bath and West Show 28 - 31 May to compete against each other for a coveted places at the The Royal International Horse Show and Horse of the Year Show later in the year.

Organisers of the top agricultural show are delighted by the number of entries this year. The hugely popular hunter classes, both Ridden and Working sections have over 150 entered with the final at the Royal International Horse Show, while the native pony classes including the Shetlands and the Welsh Section A and Bs again have over 900 entries looking towards qualifying for The Cuddy Supreme In Hand Championship in October.

Over £14,000 of prize money awaits the show jumpers coming to the show and this year the riders include Robert Bevis and William Funnell who is currently among the top ten riders in the country. The Renault Jump takes place in the Main Ring on Saturday afternoon, where the riders will be competing for prize money and points, which will count towards the Renault Points Table with the winner receiving a stylish Renault car at the end of the year. Two former British international show jumpers Harvey Smith and Graham Fletcher own three entries in the class, Laura Stephenson rides for Harvey Smith and Tina Fletcher takes the rides for husband Graham.

Local riders are very well represented in the Vaughan-France Novice Championship. Alex Valentine has a short journey up the road with her horse Candlila from Bruton, Bridgewater's Cheryl Presley with her promising ride Landos and Karen Johnson has entered her Grade C La Belle Epine from Langford, North Somerset.

This year's Royal Bath & West Show promises to be the best ever and a fantastic day out for all the family. As well as the horse and pony classes, there is a wide variety of attractions and displays, including the flower show, a fashion show, new for the first time this year and supported by Clarks Village for the Prince's Trust, canoeing on the lake for the adventurous, a galaxy of flavours to be found in the Food Halls and also the new 4x4 Extreme off road course where Dad can push his driving skills to the edge.
