The Donkey Sanctuary based in Devon is lending its support to a donkey owner who has had 11 donkeys stolen from a field in Chalfont St Giles in Buckinghamshire, overnight on Friday/Saturday (18-19 September).

The Donkey Sanctuary, which is in its 40th year, is a UK based charity working worldwide to improve conditions for donkeys and mules.

Shelagh Steel, a regional welfare officer for the charity says: “It’s absolutely awful that somebody or a group of people have stolen these beloved pets from their elderly owner.

“We are doing everything we can at the Sanctuary to help track the whereabouts of the donkeys. We’ve notified all 41 of our welfare officers who are based throughout the UK to keep an eye out for the donkeys and we’ve put an appeal on our website.”

Nine of the 11 donkeys have been named as Margo, Dana, Annick, Jodie, Tommy, Jill, Ruby, Violet and Granny.

If you have any information about these donkeys then please telephone Thames Valley Police on 08458 505 505 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111. For further information about the work of The Donkey Sanctuary telephone 01395 578222 or visit www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk
