A team from Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage is heading to Cornwall this autumn to kick off a four day festival of feasting.

Chefs from the renowned cookery school will host one of three unique feasts at Nancarrow Farm, near Truro, on the opening night of the farm’s 1,000 Mouths festival which takes place from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 October.

Nancarrow will welcome 1,000 guests over the four days, with three unique feasts taking place each night, in one of three striking barn spaces, hosted by a line up of guest chefs including Ben Tish, James Knappett, Emily Scott, and Phillip Branch from Hawksmoor.

On Thursday 5 October, the River Cottage team will be cooking alongside chef Andy Appleton of Appleton’s at the Vineyard, and Nancarrow chefs Darren Broom and Jack Bristow who are to collaborate with Bude-based caterers Beautiful & the Feast. Dishes are cooked over wood on an open fire, or the grills of the farm’s purpose-built outdoor kitchen.

Celebrations will start from 5pm each day and include a drink and fire pit canapés on arrival, tours of the farm and demonstrations of activities including pottery, wood turning, and wool spinning, before guests are seated for their feast.

Each feast will feature a cut of beef from a single traditional breed Red Devon bullock reared on the Soil Association certified organic farm. The menus also feature locally-grown and foraged ingredients, highlighting Nancarrow’s ethos of sustainable food production and consumption. The festival will raise funds for the global charity Action Against Hunger.

Steve Chamberlain, partner at Nancarrow said, “It is has been a dream of ours to host an event of this scale, and we are very excited to be welcoming such a fantastic group of chefs to cook at the farm in October.

“It is really important to us that the production and consumption of meat is done in a sustainable way and we hope 1,000 Mouths will illustrate this well, whilst also raising funds for such an important charity.”
