Later this month, a picturesque corner of Pembrokeshire will play host to the 56th All Wales Ploughing and Hedging Championships.

Being held on Saturday, September 26 at Paskeston Farm, Cosheston, near Pembroke Dock in southern Pembrokeshire. The site provides good ploughing ground and has been kindly offered by farming brothers, David and Hugh James of Langdon Mill Farm, Kilgetty who are also the Joint Presidents of the Championships which this year will be hosted by the South Pembs. The day will see contestants from across Europe competing in hedging and fencing competitions along with 11 ploughing competitions including world ploughing style classes, vintage and classic classes and horse ploughing competitions. Many of the classes offer the opportunity to qualify for other national and international competitions. This year in particular the open style and vintage ploughmen vying for the chance to qualify for the World Contest and World Vintage Ploughing Championships, bit being held in York next year.

Other attractions on the day will include the tradestands, a working vintage display and a crops and roots competitions. There will also be a special “Grown in Pembrokeshire” project, a collaboration between Pembrokeshire County Council and Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society which, through activities and exhibits, teaches primary schoolchildren about farming and food. There will also be an entertaining and information gundog display giving visitors an insight into what it takes to train up a gundog for the field.
