The Open Spaces Society,the top pressure-group for common land, has called on the Department for Transport to recommend to local authorities that they introduce a 40-mile-per-hour speed limit on all roads crossing unfenced common land in England.

Rising demand for farm land for development

International real estate providers Savills reports a rising demand for farm land which is surplus to the owners’ requirements. Despite the turbulent property market and against strong odds, its development land and valuation team in Oxford has notched up four notable deals since the beginning of the year Edward Keeling of Savills says: “Farmland is a particular niche area of the market and is extremely resilient in terms of holding its value.”

Land Registry proposes increase in fees

Land Registry, the government department responsible for registering land in England and Wales, is proposing to increase its fees. The increases are due to come into effect on 6 July.
