World Horse Welfare have rehomed a record number of horses after an incredibly successful campaign to raise awareness of the fantastic range of horses and ponies we have available at our rescue and rehoming centres.
We declared July as ‘Rehome a Horse’ month to encourage more people to consider rehoming rather than buying by highlighting the horses that are already in new homes being used in wonderful ways. These included ponies being used as part of a conservation project, a horse which could take a disabled rider to the Paralympics, horses helping the disabled to gain in confidence and learn new skills, and a show pony competing at a very high level.
Last month an impressive 31 horses and ponies in total were rehomed from our four UK rescue and rehoming centres. This compares to July last year when 12 horses were rehomed.
World Horse Welfare chief executive Roly Owers said “We are thrilled with how well the ‘Rehome a Horse’ month has been received. I am delighted that so many of our horses are now in loving new homes.
“Although this campaign has been hugely successful, we still rely upon members of the public to consider rehoming one of our horses at all times throughout the year as our centres are always bursting with a fantastic variety of horses.”
