The Web site consists of several thousand pages and is the largest bee-information website, and the only such site focussing specifically on the developing world - will be launched officially at the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA) Spring Convention: BBKA Spring Convention, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire By: Bill Turnbull (BBC Breakfast) 12:00, Saturday 18 April William Graham AM, Commissioner for Assembly Resources, National Assembly of Wales “We are helping people in Africa to help themselves. No project underlines this better than the work of the Monmouth-based charity Bees for Development”.
Dr. Nicola Bradbear, Director, Bees for Development: “We are excited at this expansion in the range of information we provide free of charge to the developing world. As climate change becomes evident, efforts to improve agricultural sustainability become more important. This new web site will help more people in Africa to practise sustainable beekeeping. This helps to alleviate poverty and helps us all, by maintaining stocks of healthy bee populations.”
Bees for Development Trust is a Charity that works to alleviate poverty in the developing world through the promotion of sustainable beekeeping. The Trust achieves this by: 1. Using indigenous bees wherever possible. This encourages conservation of an important resource and maintains healthy populations of bees beyond the problems currently experienced with bee health in the developed world.
2. Working to raise the profile of beekeeping in developing countries, with emphasis on the alleviation of poverty, building of community resilience, and encouragement of a wider sustainable economy.
3. Providing training for local trainers to further support community beekeeping development activities.
4. Maintaining the world’s only independent beekeeping information resource.
5. Answering enquiries from individual beekeepers, honey packers, government institutions, NGOs and bee related organisations worldwide.
6. Encouraging biodiversity and the health of ecosystems in the developing world.
7. Encouraging sustainable beekeeping in Wales, using examples from the developing world.
