Liz Wright’s smallholding diary

A very anxious weekend ahead – the hay was cut on Thursday but the weather forecast has changed from several days of hot weather to unsettled.  As this is a particularly thick crop due to the incessant rain this is a challenge to dry.  Lots and lots of turning.  We do our hay with an International tractor from the sixties,  a hay bob,  acrobatic rake and two balers (in case the one that Mick outbid the scrap man for at Cheffins breaks down!).  So far these vintage items of machinery have managed to deliver the goods but its always a worry.  And the grey fergie helps to cart it in together with the K reg Disocvery – passed its MOT again this year so why change it yet – next year I think we might have to get something newer.
