Seed swop at Cambridgeshire summer show
7:10pm Friday 13th July 2012 in News
Wimblington and Stonea summer show are holding seed swop.
Held in Wimblington Village Hall 15 July 2012 from 1pm as part of nearly 100 craft, garden, cookery, egg and honey classes, here's how a seed swop works!
Bring your unwanted or half used or even saved seeds to the seed swop and swop them for seeds you want to try.
You bring whatever packets of seeds or home saved seed (clearly labelled and date of harvest) and then pick up whatever seeds someone else has brought that you need.
No money changes hands and there is no one for one rule – you can take what seeds you need and bring as many or as fewer seeds as you can. It sounds too good to be true but it works as people only take seeds they genuinely want to try and bring seeds they can’t use. Seeds can be “out of packet date” – as no money changes hands you are sowing at your own risk and many seeds do germinate well after their “sell by” date.
ALL kinds of seeds are welcome from veg to ornamental.
It’s a great way of recycling what you can’t use and trying some seed you might not usually buy! Also bring old gardening or smallholding magazines and swop these too.
