Visitors to the Royal Welsh Show are being urged to travel by train to avoid possible congestion on the roads approaching Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, during the four days of the event (July 18 – 21).

Arriva Trains Wales will be running a special train from Cardiff linked to a free shuttle bus service that will ferry passengers from Builth Road Station to the nearby showground.

“Letting the train take the strain rather than travelling to the show by car has proved very popular in recent years,” said Royal Welsh Chief Executive, David Walters. “It is a comfortable and easy way to get to Llanelwedd and I recommend it to anyone along the route who would prefer to leave their car at home to avoid the hassle of driving on busy roads.”

The special train will depart Cardiff Central Station at 07.30 and call at Bridgend, Pyle and Port Talbot Parkway before travelling to the Heart of Wales line and stopping at all stations from Pontarddulais to Builth Road, arriving at 10.34.

The homeward journey will depart Builth Road at 18.45 and arrive at Cardiff Central at 21.42.

The service will operate throughout the four days of the show and a discounted admission ticket is available from Arriva Trains Wales that allows travel to and from the showground plus admission for rail travellers.
