Farmers, foresters, smallholders and growers in Yorkshire and Humber now have less than one year to access a £3m funding pot.

LandSkills Yorkshire and Humber, which is managed by Lantra on behalf of Yorkshire Forward, has a remaining £1m available until 28 February 2011 to fund a number of training and skills development activities.

LandSkills Programme Manager, Julie Hamilton, said: “Those that have a training need should apply now to ensure that they access this funding because once it’s gone it’s gone. We want as many farmers, foresters and growers as possible to apply for the 70% funding available so that they can improve the efficiency of their business through skills development.”

Since the programme began in summer 2008 almost 3500 farmers, foresters and growers have used the money to fund high level technical training such as agronomy and attend discussion groups, study tours and more.

Dairy Farmer, Robert Graham, has used LandSkills funding to develop his Herdsman Certificate. Robert said: "Training enables me to gain expert knowledge and learn from others in my training group."
