Glamorgan Smallholders were delighted, when at the 2018 Vale of Glamorgan show when they were awarded The Edward John Challenge Cup for the best trade stand.

Vice Chairman for Glamorgan Smallholders Maurice Price: “I was delighted to be able to accept the cup on behalf of the Glamorgan Smallholders but the credit doesn't stop there. Many other people joined us to make the marquee the success that it was and we all had a wonderful time sharing some of our lives with the people who came to see us.”

He added, “The live broadcasts from Bro Radio made great links with not only the people on the showground but also those who were unable to attend the event in person. The interviews really gave listeners the chance to share the buzz of what was happening on the day.”

The concept of having a social and support group for smallholders in the Vale of Glamorgan was launched a year ago at the 2017 Vale of Glamorgan Show. One year on the group had gathered enough members, momentum and support to be able to take on the Countryside Marquee at the Vale Show.

Founder member of the group, Helen Joy said, “The aim of the marquee was for people to be able to meet smallholders and to learn more about what they do and how that fits into food production and life in the countryside. We wanted people to enjoy meeting the animals and to experience a small part of what we do.”
