Following the guide Helen Babbs wrote for Smallholder magazine on making a potting bench out of pallets we’ve become a little obsessed by what else we can make.

This wonderful bench is our favourite to date!

It’s a straightforward build that can change each season.

The window box at the header lends colour, and if planted with nicotiana or stocks in summer, would lend a lovely fragrance to people seated. Probably best not to plant a particular favourite of bees as it’s at face height!

The pots inside the arm rest are pretty and can be changed each season. We would plant herbs such as camomile, Corsican mint and creeping thyme underneath so that restless feet will create wafts of delicious scent.

Pallets are so versatile - what have you made? Do share your creations with us by emailing photos to editorial@smallholder.co.uk, post them to our Facebook page @Smallholder or to our Twitter account @SmallholderMag.
