A tax specialist with 30 years’ experience of advising farmers and rural land owners has joined the rural accountancy, investment management and tax group, Smith & Williamson.

Clive Buckland has joined Smith & Williamson as a director, working in the firm’s agriculture and landed estates team based in Salisbury.

He said: “As a farmer’s son, I have grown up with an intrinsic knowledge and love of farming so it seemed only natural to take my accounting career in this direction.

"My clients are mainly farmers and rural land owners looking to develop long-term relationships with a trusted adviser on any number of issues affecting their business interests as well as their personal and family affairs.

"Today’s rural land owners are often involved in diversification projects of some description or another with development for housing or industrial purposes being a common thread.

"Smith & Williamson has an excellent reputation for its work in the Agriculture and Landed Estates sectors and I look forward to bringing my experience to bear and extending my reach.”

Susan Shaw, partner and head of Smith & Williamson’s landed estates team, said: “We are delighted to welcome Clive on board and introducing him to our clients.

"Clive has a string of notable professional achievements under his belt, including successfully negotiating with HMRC on a range of issues, from obtaining business property relief from inheritance tax on a portfolio of 25 residential and commercial lets to obtaining a full capital allowance claim on a new potato store.”
