Early morning visitors to the Royal Cornwall Show will be able to enjoy live coverage of the General Election results with commentary and analysis, courtesy of the CLA.

The CLA’s traditional Friday morning breakfast debate focuses on rural business issues but CLA South West Director, John Mortimer, says that with people awaiting the outcome of the election the temptation might have been to stay away from the show until later.

He said: "We’re going to be offering live coverage on large screens from 6.30 am, and our Friday morning breakfast debate which starts at 8.30am will keep the camera’s rolling while our team of business and political leaders will examine what the election will mean for Cornwall’s rural business community and for future investment in the county.”

Admission to the CLA breakfast is by reservation only but Mr Mortimer says some spaces are still available and can be reserved by contacting the CLA on 01249 700200.

BBC Radio Cornwall’s Daphne Skinnard will steer the discussion and pick out the key points but, as the results roll in, the team of analysts will look at the implications both for Cornwall and for the wider rural business community.

CLA deputy president, Tim Breitmeyer will join the new leader of Cornwall Council, Adam Paynter, Andrew May, the chairman of the Cornwall Agri Food Council, Kim Conchie chief executive of Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, Mark Duddridge, chairman of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly LEP, Malcolm Bell from Visit Cornwall and Simon Gregory, chairman of Foot Anstey in a discussion about the priorities for the new Government.

Mr Mortimer said: "These are important times in the farming and rural business world, so its vital we keep them up-to-date with developments and provide some top level analysis at the same time.

"Plus it’s a great way to start the day at the Royal Cornwall Show and means that nobody will have to miss out on the election news."
