RCAN (Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire) host a number of projects designed to help everyone they can in their local community including an oil purchasing scheme.

RCAN's oil purchasing scheme helps members save money as on average they pay at least five pence per litre less. The scheme also benefits the environment by reducing the number of tankers on Nottinghamshire’s country roads, and cutting vehicle mileage.

Three years ago RCAN set up a social enterprise to help people reduce the cost of their domestic heating oil. Since then the organisations has ordered a total of 1,017,790 litres of oil and saved an outstanding amount of £52,804.86 between members.

To be part of the scheme there is an annual membership fee of £20 and a membership form to complete.

The scheme is being promoted by Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire, by bringing communities throughout Nottinghamshire together and making the most of joint buying power, we can make savings and pass them directly to people like you whose fuel costs are high simply because you use oil-fired central heating.

Every time a tanker comes out to make a delivery, it is using a lot of diesel – a full tanker can get as few a s eight miles per gallon. If deliveries are organised so that one tanker delivers to several customers in a village instead of making lots of individual deliveries, the fuel consumption is reduced and so is traffic in the village.
