Several Richmond & Twickenham Athletic Club members won gold medals at the Middlesex County Veterans Championships, which were held at Barn Elms, in conjunction with the Richmond and Twickenham Athletic Club 14th Open Veterans meeting.

The first event of the day was the hammer, and Bob Sly won the mens over 60 event with 29.53m.

This was followed by Jenny Eldridge winning the womens 55 age group with 23.03m. She also won the womens over 55 discus with 19.82m, and was second in the javelin.

Pete Everest, in his first season as a veteran, won the 800m in the mens over 40 age group in 2:8.3.

Although a veteran, he ranks third in the club this year at this event. Marion Raynor won the womens over 45 3000m in 11:42.1.

John Curtin won the mens over 55 discus with 28.20m, and in the final event of the meeting, Robin Chandler, won the mens over 55 javelin with his best distance for four years of 41.23m.

Other members competing were Peter Robinson, who was second in the Over 40 pole vault, an event he only started this summer, and Clive Nash who was fourth in the Over 40's 3000m.

l In the Richmond and Twickenham Athletic Club Open Meeting, held in conjunction with the Middlesex County Veterans Championships, the best performance of the day came in the last event, the javelin.

Twenty one year old Patrick Boundy won the open senior javelin with a meeting record, and a personal best 56.61m, adding one metre to his best distance set last year.

Vault

Stephen Robinson won the U13 pole vault with 1.70m, and Michael Robinson was second with 1.50m. Liz Kipling was second in the senior ladies event with 2.10m, and Martin Holbrough was second in the Over 40 event with 2.20m.

On the track, 17-year-old Gareth Greggains won the U20 1500m, in a personal best 4:29.9. Liz Kipling was second in the senior ladies with 5:00.7, and 14 year old Bastien Tardy won the U 15 event in 5:06.8.

Malcolm Muir made a rare appearance on the track, and won the over 55 3000m in 11:37.8. Steve Barber won the U20 2000m steeplechase in 7:25.1. Luke Teverini won the U20 800m in 2:00.6. Alister Hook won the U17 event in 2:21.1, with Daniel Fielder winning the U13 event in 2:27.4. Laura Ball won the girls U15 race in 2:42.7.

John Nardinochi made his debut for the club and was second in the senior 100m B race in 11.6 secs. Shot putter, Abe Okello won the U15 100m in 13.0 secs, and was third in the 200m in 26.2 secs, 20 year old blind runner Simon Webb won his 200m in 28.2 sec and was fourth in the 100m in 13.7 secs.
