The MP for the West Cornwall and Isles of Scilly constituency of St Ives, Andrew George, will be supporting the Green Fair at St John’s Hall in Penzance on Saturday, April 12 at 10am.

Mr George, who has led calls in Parliament for badger vaccination, will shortly introduce the first community-led badger vaccination project in the country, in partnership with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL).

He will be available to discuss the project at the Green Fair and is keen to recruit more volunteers who may be interested in assisting with the initiative.

Mr George has been pressing Ministers to provide more support to badger vaccination projects like that which he and the ZSL are planning; the first community-led large scale badger vaccination project which will cover the 200km² of Penwith and other parts of West Cornwall later this summer.

Mr George said: “The Government's culling policy has been, as I had warned, an abject failure. They run the very high risk of making the problem of Bovine TB in livestock much worse. I have been urging Ministers to stop these culls and get back to evidence-based policy making; in the meantime deploying vaccination and other more effective tools.

“The vaccination project that will be rolled out later this summer will be significantly cheaper than culling, requires no policing and stands a greater chance of effectiveness in controlling bTB. I will continue to urge Government Ministers to halt their policy of culling badgers and to get behind projects like mine to advance alternatives.”

Mr George will be available to discuss any other aspect of Green Policy with those who attend the event and he has prepared a leaflet summarising some of his key campaigns.
