Don't forget Shetland cattle An article, "Ruminating over breed choices", in the May issue never mentioned Shetland cattle, a dual-purpose breed. True, it did mention RBST, which has native breeds registered. The article named foreign breeds, hardly helping British breeds.

Dear Editor The article examining rodent control methods in May's Smallholder really struck a chord with me. Our smallholding is run as an animal sanctuary with hens, geese, turkeys, ducks, rabbits and guinea pigs all living in harmony together. So we have a bit of a dilemma with our rat visitors. No living creature is harmed here, even the slugs and snails are free to share our organic vegetables, so we have to accept a few rats as part of the deal.

BOTH my husband and I have recently discovered Smallholder' magazine. But this latest edition June 2007 as far as I am concerned has a disappointing report - Foxes and Facts. The article is very interesting but I'd like to draw your attention to the adult weight mention as 12lbs. I don't think so - 20lbs plus for a dog fox and as reported, slightly less for a vixen, is more likely.
