She used to hand raise pork pies and make sausage rolls at the local butchers. Fearless in the kitchen, it’s rubbed off on me and I expect anything I cook to behave itself and turn out well, which normally it does.

SOON after Christmas, Chocolate Easter eggs were popping up in our shops and supermarkets and this got me thinking about real eggs.

Vegetables are often a child’s least favourite food and many of us still remember hating our greens as kids and yet happily tuck into a plateful as adults. A study by the School Food Trust found that while more pupils are tucking into their greens during school lunches, one in four still shun veggies, so are losing out on heart-healthy vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Heart research UK say that although the worst of the cold snap seems to be over, there may be more to come, so keep those extra layers handy for keeping warm inside and out. They warn that this time of year can spell gloom for your heart as many people turn to comfort foods such as crisps and chocolate. Comfort foods are often high in calories, sugar and salt, which can be troublesome for your blood pressure and waistline. Banish your winter blues by tucking into some healthy and heart-warming foods.
