Good news in store for equine dental technicians and horse owners

The British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) and the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians (BAEDT) have combined forces to set recognised standards for equine dental treatment. These should make it safer and easier for owners to source the most suitable dental treatment for their horses in every circumstance.

The Donkey Sanctuary rescues three abandoned donkeys from swamp

Two female donkeys and a six month-old foal were found near the bodies of two stallion donkeys who had died from a combination of starvation and exposure to the freezing temperatures.

Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Alun Davies AM, has urged members of the public to report any instances of fly grazing and abandonment of horses and ponies immediately to authorities. Mr Davies said: “The behaviour of those horse owners who seek to avoid their responsibilities through the practice of abandonment or fly grazing will not be tolerated anywhere in Wales.

Charity welcomes EU Parliament's overwhelming support for shorter journey times for slaughter horses

World Horse Welfare today welcomed the European Parliament’s landslide vote in favour of a report calling for improved conditions for the live transport of animals for slaughter, including short, maximum journey limits for horses in line with scientific opinion.

Call for volunteers at Sidmouth Donkey Assisted Therapy centre

The Donkey Sanctuary has issued a plea for volunteers at its Donkey Assisted Therapy centre in Sidmouth. The centre, which provides therapeutic riding sessions to around 150 local children with additional needs each week, as well as outreach visits with donkeys to residents of nursing homes, hospices and care homes, is appealing for local people to join their existing team of volunteers.

Remember, remember, the fifth of November…. oats, carrots and hay!
