Visitors to next week’s Great Yorkshire Show will be able to watch presenters from the BBC’s flagship children’s show, Blue Peter, competing in two of the event’s most popular competitions.

On the same day as one of the BBC’s most popular TV programmes, The One Show, is being broadcast live at England’s premier agricultural show, Blue Peter presenters, Barney Harwood and Radzi Chinyanganya, will be at the event filming for a future episode of the long-running children’s show.

It is the first time Blue Peter has visited the Great Yorkshire Show – and both presenters are excited about their involvement in the 157thannual event, which runs from Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 July 2015.

Barney will be joining in the fun in the exciting One Man and His Pig competition, loosely based on the TV programme One Man and His Dog. He will be guiding a pig around a series of jumps and obstacles, encouraging it to go in the right direction!

While Barney is involved with the pigs, Radzi will be showing a sheep in the Young Stock Handlers section of the show.

Honorary Show Director Bill Cowling said it was a huge honour to have Blue Peter involved. “Almost everybody at our event will have grown up with Blue Peter, it is a huge honour to welcome them to England’s premier agricultural show.

“It is wonderful to see that Blue Peter is still as popular today as it was when it first started and that it is still as relevant to the current generation,” he said.

Ewan Vinnicombe, Blue Peter editor, said: “We’re really looking forward to seeing how Barney and Radzi get on with their agricultural challenges at the Great Yorkshire Show.”

More than 130,000 visitors are expected to attend the 157thGreat Yorkshire Show, with TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visiting on the opening day.

Highlights of the show include the thrilling Shetland Pony Grand National, world-class showjumping, four-times daily fashion shows and inspiring cookery demonstrations by many of the region’s leading chefs.
