How to encourage butterflies to your garden and smallholding
11:45am Thursday 2nd August 2012 in Conservation
Boost your butterflies Much has been written about gardening for butterflies, and they are justifiably popular. But I still think there is much more to be done to help people really make a difference for them. And there's no better month to do so than August.
The thing is that butterflies really are very picky when it comes to plants - their caterpillars tend to only eat specific leaves, and the adults are fusspots when it comes to which flowers to drink nectar from.
So on a warm, sunny day, if you don't see many butterflies in your garden, or they fly through without stopping, then consider updating your flower selection to something more suitable.
