Govt advice to bee keepers -Friends of the Earth reaction

G Reacting to new Government plans recently announced  to help beekeepers reduce bee population losses, Friends of the Earth’s Nature Campaigner Paul de Zylva said: “Action to tackle dwindling bee numbers must go much further than advice and training for beekeepers – and must also cover wild bees, which are even more important pollinators than honeybees.

NFU responds to new research on neonicotinoid insecticides

Seasonal bee inspectors have now finished inspections for 2012

here have been reports that a gentleman in his mid-fifties and claiming to be a Bee Inspector recently attempted to gain access to an out apiary in Derbyshire. Just to remind beekeepers that the Seasonal Bee Inspectors have now finished for the year and all contact with the Inspectorate until 1st April 2013 should be through the NBU office, National Bee Inspector or Regional Bee Inspector - see contacts page on BeeBase for details.

Bee at the London Honey Show for a celebration of city bees

Beekeepers learn how to present honey for shows

HUntingdon Beekeepers Association learnt how to present honey at local and national shows from successful exhibitor, Chris Evans of Cambridgeshire.  Making it sound straightforward and achievable, Chris ran through all the show sections from jars of honey (must have a matching pair) through to wax comb (should be even) to wax products (do not overheat!).
